1. Students will first examine and discuss how they identify themselves by writing things that symbolize what makes them.
2. Students are to choose a medium to use to alter and add to the book how they see themselves or what is it that makes them as a person.
3. At the end of the project they are to present to the class their book and discuss it with the class.

(b) Introduction.

Timeline for Lesson: 2 Weeks
Activity/Procedure:
1. Students will view examples of many books covers made and discuss in class how the artist was able to portray what the book was about.
2. They then will choose a book of their own (that they have read outside or inside of class) and sketch 5 thumbnails of what they want to do. They then are to choose which thumbnail would fit best as a final drawing.
3. Students will then begin to illustrate their book covers on the watercolor paper lightly. Then they will apply the watercolor paint. Pen is optional to use depending on their piece.
4. Students will then turn in their final product and be critiqued as a class.
Assessments (objective or subjective):
1. Students will be graded on their effort to design and illustrate their cover. They will be graded on their use of composition and craftsmanship on the final product.
